Our goal at Project Food Forest is to get as many edible plants as possible all over the city. We intend to do this by planting public food forests; implementing programs that add edible trees and shrubs to existing public landscaping; designing low-maintenance edible landscapes for private clients in Sioux Falls; and educating the public about planting, harvesting, preserving, and eating low-maintenance edible landscapes through classes, workshops, and online resources.
Public food forests will range in size from a single fruit tree guild to a large food forest that provides enough yields to donate substantial supplies to Feeding South Dakota. Ultimately, the size of the public food forests will depend on the land that is given to us to utilize. We will be planting on city-owned ground as well as private land where owners are willing to allow the public to use their land.
